Mini Soccer

The Yorkshire Amateur Mini Soccer centre has now been running since 1996, successfully introducing boys and girls between 6 and 10 years old to the skills required to participate as junior footballers, from where they can go on to the Junior Section of the Club with the basics already instilled and be introduced to the 11-a-side game. Commonly, there are between 20 and 30 children at the sessions each week, but new players are always welcome.

The first introductory session is free to give the child and parent an insight into what we do and therefore make up their minds if they wish to continue attending. We take boys or girls of any standard, our qualified coaches have great ability to bring out skills that aren't obvious even to the players themselves. The success of the centre has been seen over the past few years as teams entering the Yorkshire Amateur Junior Section from the Under 10 age group upwards, have gone on to do well and win honours in the Garforth Junior Leagues, Cup Competitions and Summer Tournaments.

We have F.A. qualified coaches permanently at Mini Soccer. We also take advantage of Leeds United in the Community coaches who run six-week training sessions on a six-week-on, six-week-off basis. The main thing that all of the coaches teach is how to enjoy the game. Winning is great but emphasis on enjoyment is essential. The Mini Soccer Centre is based at Soldiers Field Roundhay Park and entry can be gained from Roundhay Cricket Club, Old Park Road. It runs every Saturday through the year, including school holidays, from 10:00 to 12 noon and costs £3 per session, which covers the cost of coaches.

There is a levy of £40 per year, for which you will be supplied with full bespoke kit - playing shirt, shorts, socks and training drill top all in Club colours, players will be expected to wear this kit at every session. We enter a squad at under 10's to the Garforth League, which allows the older children from 8 to 10 to try out their new skills in a game scenario. We enter a squad of up to 20 boys and play two 7-A-Side games every Sunday throughout the league season (September to April). Home games are currently played at Soldiers Field, Roundhay Park; the away team manager schedules away games.

Parental supervision and transport is essential at all home and away games and once signed-on every player must make themselves available for all games organised by the League.

Any parent wishing to involve themselves as coaches or managers with our Club will be booked onto the F.A. 1st4Sport Managers Course run by the West Riding County Football Association and will be given help and guidance by the existing management of the Club. If you wish to get involved contact myself or any other member of the staff whose details you will find on the Web Site. All members of the coaching staff are vetted by the relevant protection agencies to ensure the safety of the children in our charge.
